Week 2 (of 20)

Ok, so I finally managed to get new shoes this week. Yay! I opted to buy the same brand/style I owned before, even though I still have no idea if that is the best option for me, but I guess they'll be good enough.

We had our first actual track workout on Tuesday, though we didn't do much running. We did a couple of warm-up laps and then spent the whole time doing core exercises on mats. Coach Terry says that having strong core muscles will help us maintain proper running form when we begin to get really fatigued... around mile 20 or so. Ummm... ok.

On Sat, we had our second group run at Seal point in San Mateo. Since Mom was visiting this weekend, I decided to bring her along so she could walk along the bay and also see what this Team in Training thing is all about. I think she had fun, although I didn't see too much of her while I was running. She tried to get some photos, but she wasn't sure which path we were running along. The one photo she tried to get, some one else stepped in front of the camera at the last moment, so you can't even see me. I thought that was kind of funny.

Anyhoo, today, those of us in the marathon program were supposed to run 4-8 miles. Since I did 4 last week, I opted to run 6. Mind you, 6 miles is the farthest I had ever run before starting this program, and I hadn't run at all for nearly 2 years. I surprised myself, though, by running it in the same time as I had run my fastest Wharf-to-Wharf race (about 12 min/mile), but I had trained for 3 months prior to that and here I am doing it in the second week! And I didn't even feel good during the run. I had peanut butter toast with banana for breakfast, and I don't think it agreed with me too well. But despite that, I am meeting my earlier record. Crazy.
