This week we continued our core exercises at track on Tuesday, and I started going to a cycling class on Wednesdays at the gym for "cross-training". After the 6 mile run last weekend, my knees felt a little sore. I don't think it's too much to worry about, yet, just that I'm using new muscles I haven't used in awhile. But, in any case, I thought I'd add some low-impact workouts to my week and Wednesday was already an "EZ run and/or cross-training" day. I liked the class, even though it really kicked my butt, but I think I'll keep going and maybe it'll get easier eventually.
On Sat, we had an OYO (On Your Own) run scheduled of 4-6 miles (scaling back a bit from last week), but I didn't get to do it since I decided to tag along on the climbing/camping trip to Yosemite that Mark organized with his friends. Instead, I opted to get up at 4am and hike with the guys to the base of the peak that they were going to climb. The hike was about 3 or so miles in and gained probably at least 700 ft. We also started at an elevation of about 8600 ft so the air was a bit thinner and it turned out to be a pretty strenuous hike. (I figured that made up for my lack of running this week.) The view from the top was amazing, though, so I guess that made the hike worth it.
